Tungsten carbide chips where steel would deform, so these should never be used to cut suture wire, mesh with metal content, or anything the pattern was not intended for. First, the screw joint on TC scissors needs the same water-soluble lubrication as any other articulated instrument. The insert lasts longer than the joint holding it, and a stiff or loosened pivot ruins cutting quality no matter how sharp the edge remains.
