Bergmann Plaster Shears — Berlin Aseptic Pattern
Ernst von Bergmann (1836-1907), Berlin-Charité surgeon and the figure who codified aseptic-surgery technique with steam-sterilised instruments, gave his name to the heavy-shanked plaster shears that became the German-tradition cast-removal reference. Reference Bergmann handles plaster-of-Paris orthopaedic-cast longitudinal-cut removal after fracture-consolidation in fracture clinic, scaphoid-spica forearm-cast bivalve cut for swelling assessment, and paediatric long-leg-cast removal under conscious sedation.
