De Bakey S-Shaped Offset 15.5 cm — Aortic-Arch Working Angle

Michael DeBakey (1908-2008), Houston-Methodist cardiothoracic-and-vascular pioneer, introduced the offset s-shaped scissor to keep the surgeon’s hand out of the line of sight while working at depth on the aortic arch. 15.5 cm 300 series at open aortic-arch reconstruction — the s-curve takes the dominant hand off the operative axis, freeing the assistant’s view at the aortic-cross-clamp position.
