Deaver Straight — Philadelphia Abdominal Pattern
John B. Deaver (1855-1931) of Lankenau Hospital, Philadelphia, championed the deep-abdominal-cavity workhorse design that bears his name. The Deaver straight scissor is paired on-tray with the Deaver retractor and earns its place in deep open-cholecystectomy, classical right-hemicolectomy on the obese patient, and duodenal-ulcer Billroth I gastrojejunostomy where Standard length leaves the surgeon short.
