The Sims vaginal speculum and Sims uterine sound are named for James Marion Sims, the nineteenth-century American gynecologist who developed many of the techniques that defined modern gynecological surgery. The Sims speculum is a single-bladed retractor used to retract the posterior vaginal wall, exposing the cervix for examination or procedure. Sizes are typically small, medium, and large. Modern Sims specula are made from polished stainless steel with ergonomic handle designs. The pattern remains standard in office gynecology where single-blade retraction (rather than the bivalve Cusco) is preferred. Often used in conjunction with the Auvard weighted speculum during minor procedures.

Sialkot has been the world’s primary cluster for surgical-instrument manufacturing since the late nineteenth century, when local steel workshops began supplying instruments to British military and civilian hospitals. Fizza Surgical’s facility continues that tradition, combining workshop craftsmanship with the metallurgy and quality systems modern medical regulation requires. Fizza products are exhibited at international medical-device trade fairs in Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
