Jansen Self-Retaining Retractor — Mastoid-Cavity Exposure
Albert Jansen (1859–1933) Berlin ENT-surgical-pioneer designed the Jansen self-retaining retractor for hands-free exposure of mastoid-cavity during mastoidectomy. The Jansen retractor provides mastoid-cavity exposure work — self-retaining mastoid-cavity-exposure during cortical-mastoidectomy with ratchet-locking jaw-spread for cholesteatoma extirpation under operating-microscope 8-12× magnification, posterior-fossa skull-base retraction during retrosigmoid-approach for vestibular-schwannoma resection with cerebellar-protection, and external-auditory-canal exposure during endaural-approach to chronic-otitis-media-with-tympanic-membrane perforation. Jansen-self-retain mast.
