Kocher Hemostatic Forceps

The Kocher hemostatic forceps is a heavy-duty clamping instrument featuring 1×2 interlocking teeth at the jaw tip combined with full horizontal serrations. Developed by Emil Theodor Kocher (Nobel Laureate), this instrument is designed for clamping tough, fibrous tissue and thick vascular pedicles where a standard smooth clamp would slip. The teeth provide a positive, non-slip grip essential for controlling large vessels and fascia.

Design Features

  • 1×2 interlocking teeth at jaw tip
  • Full-length horizontal serrations
  • Heavy-duty box-lock construction
  • Strong ratchet with 4-5 positions

Clinical Applications

  • Clamping tough fascia and fibrous tissue
  • Thyroidectomy — clamping thyroid pedicles
  • Securing heavy vascular pedicles
  • Towel/drape clamping in the OR
  • Orthopaedic soft tissue retraction

Important Note

Due to the teeth, the Kocher is NOT suitable for delicate tissue or vessels that will be anastomosed — it is a crushing/holding clamp for tissue that will be ligated or excised.
