Landolt Enucleation 12.5 cm — Swiss-French Eye-Removal
Edmund Landolt (1846-1926), the Swiss-French ophthalmologist who described the Landolt-broken-ring acuity test, lent his name to the angled enucleation scissor for eye-removal surgery. The 12.5 cm Landolt enucleation is the standard ocular-trauma-and-tumour eye-removal length — primary enucleation for malignant intraocular melanoma where globe-preservation is impossible, secondary enucleation after blind painful eye, and primary enucleation in retinoblastoma where eye-salvage fails.
