The Olsen-Hegar needle holder is a surgeon’s compromise: combining the firm grip of a Mayo-Hegar with built-in suture-cutting scissors at the same instrument, saving one tray reach during continuous suturing. The trade-off is the risk of accidentally cutting suture when the surgeon means only to grasp the needle. Trained operators value the speed; trainees should learn Mayo-Hegar first. Olsen-Hegar is most commonly used in office procedures, minor surgery, veterinary practice, and dental closure where rapid suturing without instrument changes matters. Tungsten carbide inserts on both jaw and cutting edges extend service life. Standard lengths are 14 cm and 17 cm.

Sialkot has been the world’s primary cluster for surgical-instrument manufacturing since the late nineteenth century, when local steel workshops began supplying instruments to British military and civilian hospitals. Fizza Surgical’s facility continues that tradition, combining workshop craftsmanship with the metallurgy and quality systems modern medical regulation requires. Fizza products are exhibited at international medical-device trade fairs in Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
