Themistokles Gluck (1853-1942), the Berlin-trained orthopaedic surgeon who pioneered ivory joint-prostheses in the 1890s and contributed to early cardio-thoracic instrument design, lent his name to the 19 cm rib shears for short-thoracotomy work.
