Standard Curved Dressing Forceps — 16cm Gynaecology Curved Access

The 16cm-labelled standard curved dressing forceps serves gynaecological procedures requiring curved-access — broad-ligament dissection during open hysterectomy where the ligament curves around the uterine artery, ovarian-pedicle ligation where the infundibulopelvic ligament runs at an angle, and the parametrial dissection during radical hysterectomy where the ureter must be identified beneath an overhanging ligamentous structure.

The broad-ligament dissection

The broad ligament is a peritoneal fold connecting the uterus to the lateral pelvic wall — containing the uterine artery, the round ligament, and (along its base) the ureter. Hysterectomy involves division of the broad ligament at the level of the uterine vessels, requiring precise identification and ligation. The 16cm curved forceps handles the broad-ligament tissue at the angle the ligament presents from the pelvic-floor working position.

The radical-hysterectomy ureter-identification

The ureter runs through the broad ligament at the level of the uterine artery — the surgeon must identify the ureter (‘water under the bridge’) to avoid inadvertent injury during the radical hysterectomy. The curved forceps engages tissue at the ureter’s angle of approach for safe identification.
