Sistrunk Nail Splitting — Mayo-Trained Pattern
Walter E. Sistrunk (1880-1933), the Mayo-Clinic-trained surgeon (the same Sistrunk of the Sistrunk procedure for thyroglossal-duct cyst), is the catalog-attribution for the Sistrunk-pattern nail-splitting scissor — even though catalog spelling sometimes appears as “Systrunk”. The Sistrunk pattern is the slim-blade alternative to Ingrown for delicate nail work. Reference Sistrunk handles paediatric-toenail PNA in young children, pincer-nail (curved-nail-deformity) edge-trim in dermatology-and-podiatry combined clinic, and delicate nail-bed plication suture trim post-Winograd or Zadik procedure.
