Hegar Single-Ended Dilator — Freiburg Progressive-Dilation
Alfred Hegar (1830–1914) Freiburg gynaecology professor described Hegar’s-sign-of-pregnancy (uterine-isthmus-softening at-6-12-weeks gestation, key early-pregnancy clinical-finding) and designed the Hegar-dilators 1-26 mm graduated single-ended for progressive-cervical-dilation. The single-ended-Hegar handles progressive-dilation work — pre-D&C progressive-cervical-dilation 4-to-10-mm sequential-Hegar-dilator series for-routine-suction-evacuation, pre-hysteroscopic-resectoscope dilation to-10-or-11-mm for operative-hysteroscopy resection of-fibroid-or-polyp under direct-vision, and pre-Vabra-or-Pipelle-endometrial-biopsy gentle-dilation to-4-mm for sample-collection in office-setting.
