Knapp Blunt Scissors 10.5cm – Curved Ophthalmic Pattern
The Knapp Blunt Scissors at 105mm (10.5cm) are compact ophthalmic surgical instruments named after Dr. Herman Knapp (1832–1911), the German-American ophthalmologist who founded the Archives of Ophthalmology and established the New York Ophthalmic and Aural Institute. The Knapp pattern features short, blunt-tipped curved blades designed for safe dissection of conjunctival and Tenon's capsule tissue without risk of globe perforation. The curved configuration follows the scleral surface during perilimbal dissection.
Manufactured from AISI 420 martensitic German-grade Stainless Steel, the Knapp Blunt Scissors feature blades approximately 15–18mm with rounded blunt tips. At 10.5cm, these are among the most compact operating scissors in ophthalmic surgery, providing the precise control needed for procedures performed under operating microscope magnification. The blunt tips can safely dissect tissue planes by spreading without risk of penetrating the sclera or conjunctival vessels.
