Willauer Tonsil Scissors — Angled Blade Tonsillectomy Pattern
The Willauer Tonsil Scissors feature a distinctive angled blade design that provides superior access to the inferior pole of the tonsil — the most challenging area during tonsillectomy due to its deep position near the tongue base and proximity to the lingual artery branches. The angled blades allow the ENT surgeon to reach the inferior tonsillar pedicle without excessive retraction of the tongue, reducing patient discomfort in awake procedures and improving visualization in the narrow oropharyngeal surgical field.
Manufactured from AISI 420 martensitic German-grade Stainless Steel, the Willauer Tonsil Scissors typically measure 18–20cm (7–8 inches) overall with blades approximately 30mm in length set at an angular offset of approximately 25–30° from the handle axis. The blunt/blunt tips safely navigate the tonsillar fossa without perforating the posterior pharyngeal wall, while the angled blade geometry provides the mechanical advantage needed to cleanly divide the tough tonsillar pedicle at the inferior pole where bleeding is most likely to occur post-operatively.
